Thanking him for "two obliging favors"; discussing their work pertaining to medieval romances; thanking him for his involvement in the dilemma of Leyden possibly going to Africa; commenting on Leyden's brother, whom he has set "to work on Otuel" (for which he indicates he is enclosing a specimen); returning to the topic of medieval romances at length, including Ferragus, Roland, King Arthur, and Merlin; enclosing a passage that appears to be from his Sir Tristrem, followed by copious notes.
